Speediance Handle Bugs and FitHub Titan’s Marketing Chaos

Speediance handle disconnects and FitHub Titan’s confusing marketing prove smart home gyms are still buggy. A first-person log of current software and UX issues.

Short answer: yes, smart home gyms are still buggy. Even as we move into late 2026, the software experience remains the Achilles' heel of the digital strength category. I am still seeing handle disconnects on my Speediance immediately following a recent software update, and FitHub’s marketing for their Titan line is so scattered that it is nearly impossible to tell which model, resistance level, or accessory package you are actually buying. This is a first-person bug log from someone who uses a Speediance daily and has been closely evaluating the FitHub Titan Max as a potential secondary unit.

The High Cost of Inconsistent Marketing

I initially became interested in the FitHub Titan Max because it claims 264 lb of total resistance. For a digital cable machine, that is a significant number—enough to catch my eye even though my current Speediance handles most of my needs. When you are looking to spend several thousand dollars on a machine that takes up significant floor space, you expect a certain level of professional transparency. FitHub is currently failing that test.

I attempted to get a demo unit or at least a technical deep-dive by reaching out directly, using the same channels that worked for me with the Aiki. I received no response. I then moved to their social media channels, and that is where the marketing fragmentation became glaringly obvious. If you are a consumer trying to research this machine, you will find a mess of conflicting data points.

The FitHub Titan marketing is genuinely confusing

Here is a breakdown of the inconsistencies I found across their current ads and official listings:

  • Naming Chaos: Different Facebook ads name the product differently: "Titan," "Titan Max," and even "Titan Mirror." It is unclear if these are distinct SKUs or just lazy copy.
  • Resistance Numbers: Some ads cite 220 lb of resistance, while others—often for the same-looking machine—claim 264 lb. In the world of digital weights, a 44 lb difference is massive.
  • Bundle Confusion: Some ads show a bench in the hero image; others do not. The Amazon listing currently shows a rowing package that users have reported is not actually included in the box.
  • Outdated Assets: Their official website still uses screenshots and video b-roll from the previous model, making it impossible to verify UI improvements.
  • Pricing Opacity: There is no clear "two-pathway" pricing structure explained between the legacy model and the new Max model.

When I finally received a response via Facebook, they confirmed the adjustable bench is a $90 add-on and the rowing package is an additional $200. While those prices are actually quite competitive, the friction required to find that information is a red flag. Furthermore, in every single ad and screenshot I’ve seen, no one is actually shown performing a movement with the adjustable bench, despite the claim that the bench unlocks a wider range of motion. The visual story simply doesn't match the marketing claims.

The Software Paradox: Why I Don't Use Manual Weights

On the Speediance side, the hardware is rock solid, but the software UX continues to be a source of daily friction. I am an outlier among Speediance users because I almost never set my weights manually. Instead, I rely on automatic weight settings through the machine's dynamic weight modes. I pick a movement, and the system calculates the load based on my history. Many users disable this because the user experience is notoriously confusing, but for me, it’s the only way the machine feels "smart."

Custom Workouts vs. Recommended Programs

The Speediance software architecture creates a weird hierarchy of features. If you build a workout within the All Workouts tab or use one of the factory-recommended programs, you get the full suite of features: dynamic weight modes, partner workout options, and smart set/rest timing. However, if you build a custom workout from scratch, the system strips almost all of that away. You are left with basic info and preset training, losing the "intelligence" that makes the machine worth the price tag.

The RM Preset Logic Bug

Inside custom workouts, you are presented with four training styles: Gain Muscle, Stamina, Strength, and Customize. The system uses these to logic-gate your rep and weight ranges. For example:

  • Gain Muscle: Targets a weight RM (Rep Max) of 9-13 and training reps of 8-12.
  • Stamina: Targets lower weight RMs and higher reps.
  • Strength: Targets high weight and low reps.

The bug I encounter daily is a lack of enforcement or a logic loop. I recently set my reps to 13—which is technically outside the "Gain Muscle" range—and the system simply accepted it without adjustment. On other days, it will hard-block a weight change because it doesn't fit the preset's "philosophy." Currently, I have to "trick" the system by using Stamina mode for everything, setting reps to 13 and weight RM to 15 for working sets. This isn't what the mode is for, but it’s the only way to get the machine to behave. Speediance needs to make these presets freely configurable rather than locking them behind arbitrary range limits.

The Post-Update Handle Connection Issues

Nothing kills a workout faster than hardware that won't talk to the software. After the most recent Speediance update, I’ve experienced a recurring handle connection bug. I will open the device screen to start a set, and neither of my power grips will connect. Occasionally, one handle will drop mid-set while the other stays connected, which is a genuine safety concern when you are under load.

Both handles are confirmed fully charged. This is an intermittent software handshake issue. The most frustrating part? When I went to record a video of the bug to send to support, the handles magically connected perfectly. This "intermittent failure" is the hallmark of a system that isn't quite ready for prime time.

Comparing this to Tonal: I actually see more connection issues with Speediance than I ever did with Tonal, with one exception. When Tonal batteries die, the system doesn't always give you a low-battery warning; it just starts failing. Speediance at least tells you the battery level, but that doesn't matter if the software won't acknowledge the signal.

The Arm Position Feedback Gap

One of the most useful features on Tonal is the on-screen arm position feedback. It tells you exactly where the arms need to be for a specific move before you start. Speediance just underwent a massive UX overhaul, yet they still haven't implemented this. When I do a standing alternating chest press, I have to mentally recall if I used L3 or R4 last time, click through menus to check, and then physically adjust and hope I'm symmetrical. Tonal has had this since day one. For Speediance to miss this in a 2026 update is a significant missed opportunity for user flow.

    Who Should Choose What?

    • Choose Speediance if you value a mature ecosystem and dynamic weight modes. Despite the RM logic bugs, it is a proven platform that handles daily high-volume training well, provided you are willing to learn the quirks of its software.
    • Choose FitHub Titan Max only if that extra resistance (up to 264 lb) is a dealbreaker for you. Be prepared to spend time on Facebook or support chat to verify exactly what is in your cart before you hit buy, as their marketing materials are currently unreliable.
    • Wait if you are sensitive to software friction. Neither of these companies has mastered the "it just works" experience of consumer electronics like Apple or even Peloton. The category remains in a "early adopter" state where troubleshooting is part of the workout.

    The Bottom Line

    I am hesitant to recommend a new smart gym purchase to anyone who isn't tech-literate right now. Between Speediance’s post-update handle drops and FitHub’s inability to present a cohesive product line, the industry is struggling with basic reliability. The hardware has arrived, but the software is still playing catch-up. For now, I’m sticking with my Speediance, but I’m keeping a very skeptical eye on the "Update" button.
